If you have much darker skin, you might need your physician to prescribe you vitamin D, as the melanin in your skin might prevent the conversion of sunlight into vitamin D3. Therefore, your liver can't transform enough vitamin D3 into 25-hydroxycholecalciferol or 25-hydroxyvitamin D (the form of vitamin D our body uses), resulting in low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in your body & blood.
