Planning & Focusing on Good Habits Proactively
Have you noticed how we test ourselves constantly?
I was counseling a patient at the beginning of the week, and I explained to him how we are accustomed to buying specific products when we go to the supermarket.
If we have a list, we are more prone to following what's on the list and if we don't have a list, we often get off what's planned, and we tend to buy things that don't support our diet.
We're all guilty of going into the supermarket for one item and coming out with enough items that we can't even do self-checkout.
I was also explaining to this patient how we are accustomed to seeing food commercials everywhere we go. We pass fast-food restaurants when driving, we see many food commercials on TV, and we have options to buy many unhealthy food items and beverages at the movies (although the latter could be once-in-a-while okay-to-have kinds of items).
I explained to the patient, and I also would like to explain to you, anyway: because we're accustomed to messages & propaganda that do not help our health, it doesn't mean we need to abide by the commercials, by frequently consuming their products.
It's important to have a plan for the next day, for the next few days, etc., especially when we're busy, because guess what, when we're busy we won't look for the healthiest item on the menu, or we won't resist a type of food that we shouldn't be eating frequently.
My advice to you, should you wish to take it, is to plan your meals ahead of time, even if you're the person with a type of schedule that's very busy and needs to eat most meals out, doesn't have time to cook, or other issues that prevent you from eating healthy foods all the time.
Rather than letting commercials program you, start with your own list, so that you can determine what you buy in the store. This will help prevent you from getting unhealthy products and get in agreement with yourself to changing your habits to buy food to supports your health, getting your entire family on board with it.
Wishing you healthy planning,
