Your Daily Encouragement 9/27/2021 - World Alzheimer’s Month
September is World Alzheimer's Month.
There are mixed studies about what you can do to prevent Alzheimer’s.
However, there is one specific thing I can talk about that helps brain health: the consumption of healthy fats.
Find healthy fats in nuts – such as walnuts, cashews, almonds, natural peanut butter; seeds – such as flaxseeds, chia seeds; olive oil, avocado, salmon, fresh tuna, sardines.
Remember (no pun intended) that fats have more calories than carbs and protein. Therefore, all of these foods with healthy fats should be consumed in moderate portions. For example: for nuts and seeds, choose no more than ¾ cup each or mix. Some nuts and seeds are more caloric than others; check the labels for calories and portions.
It’s important to note that you should avoid nuts and seeds if you have diverticulitis, diverticulosis, or other severe intestinal issues. You are allowed to eat peanut, almond, and sunflower butter if they are creamy. In doubt, ask your dietitian or doctor so that you follow a diet that’s 100% safe for your intestinal issues.
Most studies also show exercise is a great ally to prevent Alzheimer’s, go get your exercise on!
