Our Planet, Our Health - World Health Day

The theme for World Health Day is "Our Planet, Our Health." This theme approaches the importance of taking care of our planet because, ultimately, the health of our planet affects our health.

For example, when we use less plastic, including fewer plastic bags, and use more reusable bags when grocery shopping, we contribute to a healthier planet.

Eating more fruits and vegetables when we can, and choosing vegetarian options when possible, help contribute to a healthier planet.

When it's possible for us to buy produce and eggs from a local farm, we help the planet's health.

Reducing food waste helps the planet because the earth produces much food, and we should use its resources wisely and consciously. Redirecting consumable food from waste to consumption at a cheaper cost helps the community and the environment.

These are other ideas from the World Health Organization.

Some of these could be more specific, for example:

  • "Implement policies to reduce food wastage" could be specified and directed to leaders in hospitals and restaurants to redirect surplus food to people in the community who could use it. Lobbying for policy change locally or nationally and subsequently changing where the consumable food that usually goes to waste could be redirected would be one way to help the planet and the community's health.

However, these are still pretty good ideas that can be "dissected" and implemented locally and nationally. It's good food for thought.

Consider reading the article attached and reviewing whether there's any specific way you can help our health by supporting the health of our planet. If you have the power to change the culture in your house, company, community, State, and country, and even if it takes longer than you thought possible, your help could change the planet and the quality of our lives.

To Our Health,
