Meditation Improves Cognition & Mood
This week, I’ll be highlighting 5 positive changes caused by meditation in our bodies:
Today’s highlight: Meditation improves mood, concentration, cognition, emotions.
Neurotransmitters are the chemicals that form a bridge to transport information between neurons (brain cells).
Meditation has been known, for many years, to increase the release of feel-good hormones, and decrease the release of anxiety-causing hormones.
People who meditate tend to have higher serotonin production. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation, and its deficiency is associated with depression. Serotonin is also produced by gut bacteria. If you look at the information I sent or posted yesterday, you’ll see that meditation also helps digestion. It’s interconnected.
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter involved in cognition, concentration, mood, emotions, and it also helps our sleep-wake cycle. People who meditate tend to have more balanced levels of dopamine.
